living love
Years ago while backpacking in Big Bend I suddenly became aware that I was actually experiencing an environment that I had spent countless hours studying through readings and lectures. At this moment my understanding of and appreciation for my surroundings leap-frogged. That which had been intellectual became tangible. My senses engaged and I was pinched into a world that had another dimension.
Over the last year I've spent much time exploring this crafty community of bloggers. In January I decided to begin my own online meandering journal of craft, photo and daily life and have enjoyed the spark that it has given me to create. But my blogging world has been a bit like my pre-Big Bend understanding of the desert. Sure, I had created a number of tangible things that were inspired by bloggers, and I had purchased a handful of handmade delights found through this portal, but I didn't feel connected to the community in a truly tangible way. Then I came home to a box from Canada.
Marnie from Girl Number Twenty sent me a gift in appreciation for being the first person to leave a comment on her blog. I'm floored by the thought and care that went into this package. A sampling of beautiful fabric (just look at those birds!!); a touching embroidered piece with a simple yet sparkling message; handmade red leg warmers for the little miss (of which I could not get a good photo, so check them out here); vintage buttons; tumbled glass from her great lake. And a copy of the book with the simple verse that drew me to leave that first comment: This is the way it is for us, this is the way we are.
I'm astounded by the loveliness she gathered together especially for me. I find myself catapulted into another dimension of blog. One where I have a tangible role. One where I am living love. Thank you, thank you dear Marnie!

oh Sarah, your too too kind words are humbling...

My husband and I did some backpacking in Big Bend before our munchkins were born. Wonderful place, and wonderful post. Lucky you to receive such a thoughtful package.
