calling the light

2127640533_26fb0abc36_o

In the darkest night we shared warmth and light with friends old and new.   Root vegetable soup and spicy winter greens warming our bellies.  Homemade pickles and pepper jelly keeping summer at the table.  Homebrewed barley wine ready after almost a year in the making.  Handwrapped carmels.  Russian tea cakes.  Pumpkin custard.  Pomegranates.  Winter poetry and prose.   A lovely celebration.

However you may be celebrating the season, may you too find warmth, find light; and may you share it with those near and dear.

how i wish i could have been there! sounds like a marvelous celebration of the solstice.

what a wonderful way to celebrate!
and candles. yes they are just the best.
lovely photo. lovely post, again.

That does sound wonderful! Wishing you a lovely holiday season :-)

Hope your welcoming of the light was wonderful. Happy Solstice.

We celebrated the light's return last night with candles, moon gazing, stuffed chard leaves and garlic carrots & caramel pana cotta and playing Settles of Catan.

Your celebration sounds so nice.
We were many of us at a potluck dinner, eaten outside, in the falling snow, around a bonfire, toasted with aquavit.
I brought cole slaw which I've been craving all week. Seemed odd at first to eat a dish typically associated with summertime, until realizing that cabbage and carrots are winter keeper crops.

Thank you for your lovely comments on Percival (Penguin).
I can't believe I haven't seen your blog before, it looks lovely.

I can't believe I forgot to post you a comment when I first read this several days ago! Oops!

Totally lovely, Sarah. Wow. The way you express this is so perfect. xo

Your celebrations sound wonderful Sarah.

Sending warm best wishes for a safe and happy New Year.
