The little one and I happened upon a trunk show of felted toys at one of the local yarn shops last week, and when it was determined we couldn't come home with the actual toys, we settled on a pattern. She selected the Kitty Kat. I knew immediately that I'd have to knit the Kat's homespun cousin. There's something about novelty yarn and plastic eyes that are a bit too creepy for me.
And so, we have Homer, named after the grey stray in The Winter Cat -- a book I loved as a child and was thrilled to find at the Friends of the Library book sale. He was a quick and easy knit -- essentially five I-cords plus paws, body and head. I knit his ears right onto his head so that I wouldn't have to sew them on later. He could use another spin in the wash to tighten up the stitches, but we'll wait until after the weekend's canoe camping adventure.
If you're considering the gocco swap, Monday is the last day to sign up. There are over 40 gocco'ers on board so far -- lots of familiar names from the mid-winter swap, and many new ones, too! I ordered up my supplies and now just need to corral one of the ideas galloping about in my head.
