The wind made us change our mind about walking by the lake. The rain made us double back. The sun that peeked out just as we returned home reminded me of Julia's dandelion sorbet. We fetched a mason jar from the kitchen and set out again, this time to the community garden around the block. Most of the plot hasn't been tended yet, so the dandelions are abundant. And big. In a few minutes we filled the jar.
At the dining room table she and I snipped the petals. Kitchen shears and stubby kid scissors. Fingers and placemats streaked with yellow. Little bits everywhere.Later, the petals steeped while she napped. In the morning we'll spin the resulting dandelion infused syrup in the ice cream maker. And then, really taste spring.
Julia's version of the recipe can be found here.
